Work History
Staked as part of 379 Cab claims (claim 5 = 89133) in Jul-Aug/74 by Arctic Red Joint Venture (Bethlehem Copper Corporation Ltd, DuPont Mining Compant Ltd, International Mogul Mines Ltd, Utah Mines Ltd, and Welcome North Mines Ltd). The claims straddle the border between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories (65 claims lie within the Northwest Territories). The joint venture carried out geological mapping, rock and soil sampling and drilled 2 diamond drill holes (346 m) in 1974 and carried out further geological mapping and soil sampling in 1976.
Capsule Geology
The region is underlain by a northwest-striking package of Upper Proterozoic to Lower Paleozoic clastic and carbonate rocks. A series of NE-verging thrust faults result in repeated sequences within the package, with sedimentary rocks younging to the south.
Fine-grained, bedded, and coarse-grained remobilized sphalerite occur with minor calcite and barite in the Upper and Lower Zones of Lower Cambrian Sekwi Formation dolostone, which is locally 3000 ft (914 m) thick. The mineralization is confined to talus and scattered outcrops and is widespread. The two best showings are Cab No. 1 (on Cab claim #10) and Cab No. 2 (on Cab claim #146) some 4000 m to the west.
The Cab No. 1 showing is a 500 m long area of float up to 50 m wide. A chip sample across the best portion assayed 2.4% zinc and 0.01% lead over 30 m. A single holedrilled beneath the zone was unmineralized.
The Cab No. 2 showing consists of two areas of float, the largest of which is 150 by 100 m. A chip sample across the best 50 m of rubble assayed 8.4% zinc and 0.01% lead. The best section from two holes drilled into the uppermost zone returned 15 m grading 1.0% zinc.
