Work History

Staked as WX cl 1-24 (Y86328) in Jan/74 by Canwex Explorations Ltd and optioned during 1974 by Cominco Ltd, which carried out mapping and soil sampling. The CP cl (Y87766) were staked 3.2 km to the northeast in Mar/74 by R. Cameron.
In 1975, Canwex optioned its claims to Green Eagle Mines Ltd and Westwind Mines Ltd, which added more WX cl (Y98224). Bow River Resources Ltd & Highhawk Mines Ltd added the Balls cl 1-10 (Y97279), Sam cl 1-8 (Y98102) and Sam cl 9-14 to the southeast in Mar-Jul/75 and performed a small geochem survey prior to optioning the claims to Cominco in July. Cominco performed mapping and geochem surveys in 1975 and hand trenching in 1976. In 1976 Green Eagle changed its name to Northern Eagle Mines Ltd.

Capsule Geology

The area is underlain by Middle Proterozoic Pinguicula Group and Middle to Upper Proterozoic Hematite Creek Group carbonate and siliciclastic rocks that were deposited with angular unconformity on the Lower Wernecke Supergroup that lies to the west. The unconformably overlying Windermere Supergroup (Upper Proterozoic) succession lies to the east, and younger fault-bound carbonate and siliciclastic rocks occur to the south.
Sphalerite, galena and minor tetrahedrite occur in vugs and fractures in dark brown weathering dolomite of the Hematite Creek group (formerly Upper Pinguicula Group). Only minor mineralization was found on the WX claims. The best showing is exposed in talus over a length of 90 m and a width of 1.8 to 11 m on the Bow River-Highhawk claims. It occurs close to a fault and averages 0.84% lead-zinc across an average width of 5.2 m.
