Work History
Staking records indicate that the Mt Hinton area was extensively staked between 1920-22. Old pits in this area probably date from that period. The earliest recorded work dates are from Aug/65, when United Keno Hill Mines Ltd (UKHM) staked T cl (84621) to cover a Geological Survey of Canada geochemical stream silt anomaly. Prospecting led to the discovery of the showing, which was hand trenched in 1966.
Restaked as Tuf cl (YA63452) in Jul/81 by Meldean Placers Ltd which rehabilitated the old trenches.
Restaked as Kac cl 1-4 and Dana cl 1-4 (YA77770) in Aug/85 by R. Schmittel who carried out rock geochemical sampling. In May/86, 660250 Ontario Ltd acquired the claims and staked June cl 1-17 (YA83067) the following month. The company then carried out geological mapping, geochemical soil sampling, VLF-EM surveying, resampling old trenches and staking of June cl 18-23 (YA83242) in Jul/86. Orex Resources Ltd drilled 2 holes (147 m) in 1987 under an option. In Jun/88 D. Waugh staked Zulu cl 1-20 (YB02293) contiguously to the northeast.
Restaked as WWD cl 1-8 (YB28950) in Sep/92 by D. Ewing, who surrounded the claims on three sides by staking WWD cl 9-33 (YB29750) in May/93. The showing was restaked a WD cl 1-4 (YB22559) by W. Tompson in Sep/93.
In Oct/94 D. and J. Hajek restaked the occurrence and surrounding area as a series of small claim groups. The eastern section of the vein was staked as Wild cl 9-12 (YB43462), the western section was staked as Wild 5-8 cl (YB43458) and these claims were surrounded with Wild cl 29-32, Willy cl 13-28 and Wild Willy cl 1-4 (YB43434).
Restaked as Wild cl 1-14 (YB65938) in Oct/96 by J. Hajek.
Restaked as Hinton III cl 1-24 (YC01152) by the Hinton Group, a private syndicate, in Jun/98. In 2002, Yukon Gold Corporation Ltd optioned a 75% interest in these and other contiguous claims, collectively known as the Mount Hinton property, from the Hinton Group. Yukon Gold Corporation carried out excavator trenching, geochemical sampling and road building on the central portion of the claim group (Minfile Occurrence #105M 052) during 2002 and 2003, before staking Red cl 1-9 (YC10948) to the west-northwest in Aug/2003.
Capsule Geology
The UKHM trenches traced a vein intermittently for a length of 150 m of which 30 m is well exposed. The vein strikes 055¿ and dips 25¿ southwest, parallel to foliation in the enclosing Mississippian Keno Hill Quartzite. The vein varies in width from 20 to 60 cm but bulges to 1.9 m at the northwest end, where it appears to be cut off by a cross fault. Two selected specimens of galena assayed 30 822.0 g/t Ag and 72% Pb, and 14 536.8 g/t Ag and 75% Pb. Chip samples averaged 206 to 274 g/t Ag and 0.07 to 0.10 g/t Au across an average width of 1.5 m.
The 1986 program consisted of 7 chip samples across the main vein at 2 to 3 m intervals. The best assay was 3 373.6 g/t Ag and 0.89 g/t Au across 1.3 m. The other results were comparable to the UKHM assays. The vein was traced in bedrock for a length of 259 m and geochemical and EM anomalies and mineralized float suggest a further 91 m extension to the southeast. The dip was found to change from northeast to southwest along the float trend. The 1987 drilling did not return any significant values from core intervals that were analysed.
