Work History
Staked as the Gambler, Lakeview, Madge and Lost Chord cl in 1919-20 by A. Lamb, C. Settlemier, A.R. Thompson and A.H. Denver. Work on the Gambler claims to 1923 included an upper adit 15.2 m long and a second 12.1 m adit some 15 m lower in elevation. Forty-eight tonnes of ore were mined from the upper adit in 1923.
The Gambler claim was optioned to Keno Hill L in 1929-30 and acquired by Comstock Keno ML in 1951. During 1951-53, Comstock extended the lower adit 155 m and drove a 12 m raise at a distance of 110 m from the portal.
The claims were leased in 1957 to J.B. O'Neill, who high graded 37.4 tonnes of ore from the lower adit. O'Neill negotiated a new lease in 1980 and trenched and sold part of his interest to Skidigate Res L in 1981. Total production from the Gambler vein is reported as 223 tonnes grading 5389 g/t Ag, and 56% Pb.
Capsule Geology
The claims cover a longitudinal-type vein that may be the northern extension of the Shamrock vein. It cuts the favourable Keno Hill Quartzite, dips 60° south and varies from 1.5 to 4.6 m in width. Mineralization consists of pyrite, arsenopyrite, galena, sphalerite and freibergite in quartz and siderite gangue.
The 1923 shipment assayed 10 182.6 g/t Ag and 40% lead. The 1957 shipment averaged 7097.0 g/t Ag, 1.1 g/t Au, 69.8% Pb and 5.9% Zn. The 1981 trenching, which was too shallow to expose mineralization, was near old workings 76 m southwest of the adit.
