Work History
Staked as Firth, etc cl (66741) as part of the main Vangorda property in Sep/53 by Prospectors Airways Ltd on behalf of a syndicate including Noranda Mines Ltd and Kerr Addison Cold Mines Ltd, which carried out gravity and magnetometer surveying and drilled 3 holes in 1954-55.
In Nov/64, Pelly River Mines staked Tie cl 5-8 and 13-24 (85273) to the south and carried out rotary drilling of 5 holes (567.8 m) in 1965 and 1966. Pelly also staked numerous Whi cl (Y01278) in Feb/66 to protect internal fractions within their claim block.
The property was later taken to lease by Vangorda Mines Ltd, a subsidiary of Kerr Addison Mines Ltd and was optioned in Aug/73 by AEX 73 Syndicate, which carried out Turam surveying later in the year. In early 1974, a new company, AEX Minerals Corporation Ltd, was formed to continue work under the option and it merged in 1975 with 79902 Resources Ltd to form Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. A. Dieckmann tied on Jazz cl 1-8 (YA8608) in Feb/77 to the north.
In 1978, Kerr Addison, Vangorda Mines Ltd and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd sold all their interests to Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation, which drilled one hole (288.9 m) in 1979 on cl Whi 23f and carried out detailed mapping in 1983. Control of Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation was sold to Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Ltd and subsequently to Dome Petroleum Ltd in 1981 and to Curragh Resources Inc in 1985. In Nov/94 Anvil Range Mining Corporation acquired all claims owned by Curragh following the bankruptcy of the latter.
In Jan/98 Anvil Range filed for court protection in order to restructure the company. In Jan/99 Anvil Range¿s stock was delisted and the company entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Capsule Geology
This is a small lense of mineralization similar in petrology to the nearby Vangorda and Grum deposits. It is contained within the Tie fault zone, an extensional fault structure related to the intrusion of the mid-Cretaceous Anvil Batholith. The Tie fault, which truncates the Grum orebody at its northwest end, has a throw of 1-1.5 km. The Firth showing is interpreted as pieces of the Grum orebody within the Tie fault, brought to surface from a depth of over 400 m.
