Work History
Staked as Pelly cl 1-24 (66883) in Oct/53 by the Potluck Syndicate, which carried out geological mapping and magnetometer surveying in 1954. The adjoining Reno cl 1-8 (66971), Star cl 1-8 (66979) were staked to the west in Nov/53 by Alator Corporation, which added Ted cl 1-8 (67383) and carried out geological mapping and magnetometer surveying in 1954-55.
Restaked as Lake cl 1-40 (85763) in Nov/63 by Dickson Yukon Syndicate (Faraday Uranium Mines Ltd, Homestake Mining Company Ltd, Union Carbide, U.S.S. & R, Violomac Mines Ltd and T. Lindsley), which carried out preliminary surveying and drilled 3 holes (188 m) in 1964. The syndicate was succeeded by Rose Creek Vangorda Mines Ltd, which later entered a joint venture with Anvil Mining Corporation, Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation and Dynasty Explorations Ltd and transferred the claims to a new company, Pelly River Mines Ltd.
Restaked as Gale cl 1-66 (Y67319) in Oct/72 by Anvil Mining Corporation Ltd, which transferred the claims to Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation in 1975 and carried out deep IP surveying in 1977. Control of Cyprus Anvil was sold to Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Ltd and subsequently to Dome Petroleum Ltd in 1981. Dome's interest was sold in 1985 to Curragh Resources Ltd. In Nov/94 Anvil Range Mining Corp acquired all claims owned by Curragh following the bankruptcy of the latter.
In Jan/98 Anvil Range filed for court protection in order to restructure the company. In Jan/99 Anvil Range¿s stock was delisted and the company entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Capsule Geology
The claims are underlain by shaly limestone and calcareous phyllite of the Cambrian to Ordovician Vangorda formation. The 1964 drilling tested a magnetic anomaly and intersected gabbro and serpentine with zones of up to 20% magnetite and minor pyrite. The gabbro is interpreted to be subvolcanic dykes and sills to the the basalts of the Ordovician to Silurian Menzie Creek formation.
