Work History
Staked as Beta cl 1-92 (90873) in Oct/64 by Dynasty Exploration Ltd, which entered a joint venture with Cyprus Mining Corporatin in Mar/65 and carried out ground magnetometer, EM and geochemical surveying and drilled 3 rotary holes (about 396 m) before transferring the claims to a new company, Anvil Mining Corp Ltd, later in the year.
The west side was partially restaked as XYZ cl 1-48 (Y80046) in Aug/74 by B. Fitch and as Ruth cl 1-42 (Y92663) in Mar/75 by Vangorda Project (Welcome North Mines Ltd and Getty Mines Ltd), which carried out magnetometer and EM surveying in 1975 and 1979 and drilled one hole (124.4 m) in 1979 on the Ruth claims.
Most of the east side of the Beta group was restaked in Jul/76 as Janice cl 1-137 (YA4357) by a joint venture between Cyprus Anvil Mining Corp and Kerr Addison Mines Ltd, while the west side was restaked as Kit cl 1-92 (YA4730) by Cyprus Anvil. Both groups were explored with Turam and gravity surveys in 1977, and 2 holes (379.2 m) were drilled on the Janice 81 and 106 claims in 1978. In 1979, Kerr Addison sold its interest to Cyprus Anvil.
Capsule Geology
The original claims covered five aeromagnetic anomalies straddling Blind Creek in an area of extensive overburden 3.2 km long and 610 m wide. Minor galena-bearing float was found near Blind Creek. The 1965 drilling tested a coincident mag-EM anomaly caused by a 30 m thick section of graphite schist.
The 1978 holes tested an EM conductor and cut the same graphitic schist horizon, again with traces of base metal sulphides containing 5% disseminated pyrite + pyrrhotite with a trace of galena and sphalerite. The host rocks have been assigned to the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation.
