Work History
Staked as Ace cl 11-88 (90965) in Nov/64 by Dynasty Exploration Ltd, following an aeromagnetic survey. Dynasty conducted ground magnetics and EM surveying and soil geochemical sampling in 1964 and 1965. In Mar/65, a joint venture was formed with Cyprus Mines Ltd and the claims were transferred later in the year to a new company, Anvil Mining Corporation Ltd. Anvil drilled 4 holes (599.2 m) in 1966 and carried out magnetometer and IP surveying and drilled another 2 holes in 1967.
Restaked in Oct/71 as Mag cl 1-24 (Y62926) by Spartan Exploration Ltd in a joint venture with Preussag A.G. Metall and carried out geological mapping, geochemical, magnetometer and IP surveying in 1972. Restaked in Mar/73 as Lisa cl 1-28 (Y75073) by Ridgemont Mining Corporation Ltd (Cyprus), which carried out geological mapping in 1973, and geochemical soil sampling, geological mapping, gravity and EM surveying in 1974 and 1975. The claims were then transferred to Cyprus Anvil Mining Corp which added the Fin cl 1-54 (YA4213) in Apr/76 and carried out Turam and gravity surveying later in the year. In 1977, Cyprus Anvil entered a joint venture with Metallgesellschaft Canada Ltd and carried out additional gravity surveying.
Capsule Geology
The 1964 staking protected an aeromagnetic anomaly 8 km long and up to 600 m wide. Further work showed that EM anomalies were also present but were not coincident with the magnetic anomaly. The 1966 drilling cut unmineralized limy graphitic phyllite of the Ordovician to Devonian Swim Lakes formation in the three northernmost holes. The southernmost hole cut sericite phyllite of the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation, 49 m of which contained minor galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite in the foliation. Both 1967 drill holes also cut the lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation. An exposure of crystalline schist 450 m south of the anomaly produced abundant float containing chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite.
Ridgemont reported minor chalcopyrite with pyrrhotite in quartz-rich phyllite from four separate localities. The host rocks have been assigned to the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation.
