Work History
Staked as Oke cl (72725) in Sep/56 by Kennco. Restaked in Sep/59 as Norken and Fool cl (74441) by Yukon Can Mg CL, a member of the Hirshorn group, which explored with trenching, mag and EM surveys and 6 holes (564.8 m) in 1961 and 7 holes (800.1 m) in 1962. The showing was fringe staked during this period by various companies in the Hirshorn group - Consolidated Marbenor ML, Snowdrift Base Met ML, Consolidated Panther ML, Indian Mountain Met ML, Elite Cobalt ML, Castlebar Silver and Cobalt ML, Penelope EL, Gui-Por Uranium and Met L, and Murky Fault Met ML. Kerr Addison ML tied on the Top cl (77636) in Apr/62.
Restaked in Jun/66 as Emu cl (Y7939) by Atlas EL; as the Bill cl (Y42918) in Aug/70 by B. Wilson; as Core cl (Y74002) in Aug/73 by J.H. Oliver and as Kate cl (Y83857) in Feb/75 by Welcome North ML, which conducted mapping and geochem sampling later in the year. Tony Rich tied on Pro cl (Y84153) in Jun/75 at the northwest end, possibly for Vestor EL, and Cyprus Anvil tied on Pig cl (YA106) to the east in Jul/76 and explored with geochem sampling in 1976 and geochem, mapping and EM surveys in 1977, when the Kate group was briefly optioned.
In 1980, Getty Mg optioned the Kate group and performed mapping and geochem sampling.
Capsule Geology
The oldest rocks on the property consist of quartz-diopside-actinolite-biotite skarn with minor bands of marble, limestone and amphibolite, that are probably correlative with the Cambro-Ordovician Rabbitkettle Formation. This calc-silicate sequence is overlain by graptolitic and graphitic shale and chert of the Ordovician -Lower Devonian Road River Formation and varicoloured chert, grey to green shale and grey limestone, probably of Devonian-Mississippian age. Dykes and sills of diorite (probably Tertiary) intrude the sequence.
Finely laminated sphalerite and galena in shale has been found as float on the claims but the source has not been located. A selected specimen assayed by Welcome North returned 11.5% Pb, 8.9% Zn and 154.3 g/t Ag.
The early work by Yukon Canada Mining Co. Ltd was directed toward a showing containing chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite and minor galena and sphalerite. This mineralization consists of discontinuous bands, irregular patches, small blebs, fracture fillings and disseminations within the calc-silicate unit and in 1975-1977 was traced in float and by soil sampling for a length of more than 1500 m. The best drill intersections were 0.66% Cu and 10.3 g/t Ag across 5.7 m and 0.43% Cu and 6.9 g/t Ag across 4.6 m in two separate zones about 12.2 m apart in Hole 4.
Soil sampling on the Kate group outlined a lead anomaly more than 915 m long, which extended onto the Pig group. This anomaly was thought to be caused by quartz veins containing traces of galena and arsenopyrite.
