Work History

Staked as Pike cl 1-76 and various fractions (Y13149) between Jul/66 and Nov/66 by Atlas Exploration Ltd following airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveying. Atlas carried out prospecting, trenching, geochemical (silt and soil) sampling and geological mapping in 1966 and 1967. One packsack hole (24 m) was drilled in 1996 and a tote road was constructed to the property in 1967. Fringe staking to the northwest included the Cree and Star cl (Y16250) by A. Racicot and the Oxo cl (Y16210) by Napoli Exploration Ltd. Racicot optioned his claims to Hecla, and preliminary surveys were conducted by Hecla and Napoli in 1967 with negative results.
The property was later transferred to Atsui Mining Corp Ltd and the Atlas interest was transferred to Cima Resources Ltd in 1974. Atsui performed limited trenching in 1977; Craigmont Mines Ltd carried out mapping under an option in 1978; and Cima performed linecutting in 1980. Atsui and Cima carried out geochemical sampling, geological mapping and drilled 3 holes (280 m) in 1981. Canamax Resources Ltd tied on Pik cl 1-16 (YA91393) to the south in Aug/86.
Restaked as Anky cl 1-32 (YB15618) in Mar/89 by Noranda Exploration Ltd, which carried out soil sampling, hand trenching and some geological mapping.
Restaked as Pike cl 1-6 (YB87183) by P. Risby in Aug/96 and was examined by Hastings Management Corp in Sep/96. Risby staked Pike cl 7-129 (YB87488) in Oct/96 and the claims were examined by Teck Mining Corp in Jun/97, by Viceroy International Exploration in Jul/97, by Homestake Canada in Aug/98 and Risby in Aug/99. Geochemical sampling and prospecting was carried out during the course of these various property examinations.

Capsule Geology

Copper and silver occur in two subparallel quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes associated with a small mid-Cretaceous stock of biotite granite. The granite intrudes a thrust fault-bounded succession of tightly folded Cambro-Ordovician quartzite, chert, slate and limestone.
Two mineralized zones are outlined by continuous lead and copper soil anomalies and by geophysical anomalies and discontinuous gossanous kill zones. Zone 1 is 400 m in length, and may be a faulted offset of Zone 2, which is 2 km long and lies to the east. Pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, galena, and sphalerite with lesser enstatite and bornite occur in both zones as disseminations and veinlets accompanied by hydrothermal alteration and silicification in the dikes and wallrocks. Arsenopyrite is the main sulphide mineral in Zone 1, while Zone 2 consists mainly of sphalerite and galena, especially at the east end.
Trenching suggests that mineralization is erratically distributed over widths up to 120 m. Zone 1 trench samples averaged 0.61% Cu and 82 g/t, Ag while Zone 2 assays ranged up to 8% combined Pb-Zn and 340 g/t Ag.
The 1981 drilling returned disappointing results with the best intersection assaying 1.06% Cu, 0.39% Pb, 0.80% Zn, 113 g/t Ag and 0.3 g/t Au across 1.5 m. In late 1981, Cima calculated the tonnage potential as 300,000 tonnes grading 0.5% Cu and 62.2 g/t Ag over a 200 m strike length. Samples analysed for gold in 1990 contained up to 760 ppb Au.
Sampling during the 1996-1999 period produced results consistent with those obtained during previous investigations for silver, copper, lead and zinc. Viceroy collected samples at 50 m intervals to test for potential gold enriched sections, within the mineralized zones, with disappointing results.
