Work History
Staked in Sep/77 as Tai cl (YA25762) by Welcome North ML, which conducted mapping and sampling in 1977 and 1978. Riocanex explored with rock geochem sampling and 2 drill holes (160.6 m) in 1979 under a brief option. In 1981, the property was optioned to Union Carbide EL.
Capsule Geology
The showings consist of scheelite in garnet-diopside-quartz skarn that has developed in migmatized Proterozoic limy phyllite and limestone along the complex and indistinct margin of the Mt Billings Batholith. The skarns tend to be sulphide-deficient although minor amounts of pyrrhotite, sphalerite, magnetite and chalcopyrite are locally present. Molybdenite occurs with scheelite, magnetite and chalcopyrite in quartz veins that cut the skarn.
The northernmost showing, called Tai West, consists of a 30 m thick skarn zone that outcrops for over 600 m and contains very low grade scheelite. The other three showings (collectively called Tai East) consist of very narrow skarn bands. The middle showing, which is the best, returned average chip sample assays of 0.04% WO3. The best drill intersection was 0.02% WO3 over 15 m.
