Work History
Staked as Canyon and Lake cl (88993) in Oct/64 by G. Lishy and optioned by Ventures Mg, which hand trenched and drilled 6 holes (70.4 m) in 1965. Restaked as Silver cl (Yl7716) in Apr/67 by J.C. Turner, who conducted a mag survey in 1968. Minor hand trenching was performed between 1969-73 by A. Robertson and Little Rocky ML under an option. The adjoining Abel cl (Y74308) were staked in Oct/73 by R.C. Coutts, who restaked the showing in Jul/74 as Det cl (Y83127).
Restaked by J.C. Turner as Skull cl (YA20908) in Jul/77, which he trenched in 1977, enlarged and optioned to Stand-Skat Res L in 1978. The claims were bulldozer trenched in 1979, transferred to Kimberly Gold Res L and Vancliffe Res Corp in 1980 and explored with geochem, mag and EM surveys in 1981 and 1982, and 8 diamond drill holes (1400 m) in 1981. Patmar Res L tied on Gel cl (YA35365) to the east in Jul/78 and performed mag, EM and geochem surveys in 1981. Kimberley's interest was acquired by Ican Res L in 1984.
Capsule Geology
Two mineralized zones 914 m apart consist of fine-grained galena and minor pyrite with traces of sphalerite. The mineralization occurs in a sequence of shale, phyllite and chlorite-sericite-graphite schist of uncertain age near a Cretaceous granitic stock.
The west (Upper) showing is about 15 m wide and is exposed for a length of 9 m. It occurs in a shear zone along a northeast-dipping thrust fault which has placed limestone over sheared graphitic phyllite. Galena and pyrrhotite occur in manganese-stained quartz-carbonate breccia along the fault and in quartz and siderite-veined graphitic shale in the footwall. A specimen from a 0.6 to 0.9 wide lens of massive sulphides assayed 25.6% Pb, 117.9 g/t Ag and 0.3 g/t Au. Two of the four holes drilled in 1981 intersected 0.3 m of 987 g/t Ag, 0.17 g/t Au, 0.4% Pb and trace Zn; and 0.6 m of 171 g/t Ag, 0.14 g/t Au, 4.3% Pb and trace Zn and Au.
The east (Lower) showing is about 7.6 m wide and is exposed for a length of 45.7 m. It consists of a concordant, flat-lying massive sulphide lens in quartz phyllite. A specimen from the core of the zone which is about 0.9 m wide assayed 17.3% Pb, 83 g/t Ag and 0.3 g/t Au. Both 1981 holes were barren.
