Work History
Staked as Bev cl 151-162 (Y83640) in Oct/74 following airborne surveys by Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Ltd, which conducted ground mag and EM surveys and drilled 2 holes (148.0 m) in 1975.
In July/94 Cominco Ltd restaked the property as the Pick cl 1-36 (YB50959) and carried out a small reconnaissance exploration program later in the year. In Jul/97 Cominco optioned the Pick and other neighbouring claim groups to Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd, which carried out a reconnaissance exploration program later in the summer. The claims were returned to Cominco in Nov/98.
Capsule Geology
The Finlayson Lake region is dominantly underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Early Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT) that have been intruded by Mississippian granitic intrusions and later Jurassic, Cretaceous and Eocene intrusions (Murphy et al., 2001). The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by Late Triassic time. Volcanic-hosted massive sulphide deposits exist at different stratigraphic positions within the YTT including the Fyre Lake deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 034) in the Devonian to lower Mississippian(?) Fire Lake mafic metavolcanic unit, the Kudz Ze Kayah deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 117) in the Mississippian Kudz Ze Kayah felsic metavolcanic unit, and the Wolverine deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 072) within the Lower Mississippian Wolverine Succession.
The occurrence is mapped as being underlain by Upper Devonian metasedimentary rocks (Murphy et al., 2001; unit Dq), with the Fire Lake metavolcanic unit occurring to the east. Volcanism within the sequence was accompanied by the intrusion of Mississippian metaplutonic rocks to the north.
The original Bev claims were staked in an area of deep glacial drift. The 1975 drilling tested geophysical anomalies within Devonian to Mississippian flat-lying, carbonaceous, pyritic schist.
Cominco staked the Pick claims to cover airborne geophysical targets identified during a Cominco survey conducted in early 1994. Follow-up soil sampling revealed no anomalies of interest. Pacific Bay's exploration program failed to identify any significant anomalies or mineralization.
