Work History
Staked as Gee cl (90172) in Jan/66 by Northlake ML (Augustus EL, Silver Standard ML, Transcontinental Res. L, Copper Ridge ML, and North Pacific ML), which flew an airborne mag & EM survey and conducted grid soil sampling, prospecting and a Ronka EM survey later in the year.
The occurrence was included in lands withdrawn from staking due land claims negotiations. Cominco staked the Hot cl 1-18 (YB49362) 3 km to the southeast in June/94. Archer, Cathro & Associates (1981) surrounded the Hot claims on three sides with the Shot cl 1-36 (YB56059) in Sept/94. The Shot claims are located 1 km to the southeast of the occurrence.
Capsule Geology
Geological mapping (Murphy et al., 2001) shows the region is dominantly underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Early Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT) that have been intruded by Mississippian granitic intrusions and later Jurassic, Cretaceous and Eocene intrusions. The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by Late Triassic time. Volcanic-hosted massive sulphide deposits exist at different stratigraphic positions within the YTT.
Northlake discovered an EM anomaly within a large block of claims staked to protect known nearby showings and designated it Area 14. No mineralization was found. The area is extensively overburden covered but is underlain by Upper Devonian to Lower Mississippian(?) Grass Lakes Succession metasedimentary rocks and Fire Lake metavolcanics according to regional mapping (Murphy et al., 2001).
