Work History
Staked as Davie cl (Yl6897) in Jul/66 by Kerr Addison Mines Ltd, following a regional aeromag survey earlier in the year and explored with mag and EM surveys, a gravity survey and geochemical surveys in 1966-67. Restaked as Dol cl (Y22786) in Mar/68 by Spartan Explorations Ltd, which drilled one hole (77 m) later in the year.
Restaked as Black cl 1-16 (YA11840) in Nov/76 by Marge Enterprises Ltd, which drilled one hole (86 m) in 1977. Fringe staking in 1977 included Good, etc cl (YA20168) to the west by M. Mooney and NTX cl (YA12494) by Nithex Exploration & Development Ltd to the northwest, which were trenched in 1978. In 1978, Kerr Addison optioned and enlarged the Black group with the Val & Vam cl (YA28667), conducted EM and geochemical surveys and drilled 2 holes (304 m). The Vam group was transferred to G. Harris and A. Carlos, who performed hand trenching in 1979 and surveys in 1981.
The occurrence presently lies within an area withdrawn from staking due to land claims negotiations.
Capsule Geology
Geological mapping (Murphy et al., 2001) shows the region is dominantly underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Early Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT) that have been intruded by Mississippian granitic intrusions and later Jurassic, Cretaceous and Eocene intrusions. The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by Late Triassic time. Volcanic-hosted massive sulphide deposits exist at different stratigraphic positions within the YTT including the Fyre Lake deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 034) in the Devonian to lower Mississippian(?) Fire Lake mafic metavolcanic unit.
The occurrence was staked to cover aeromagnetic anomalies of 150-200 gammas identified by government-sponsored airborne geophysical surveys. Follow-up ground surveys identified a coincident mag-EM anomaly on the east side of Tom Lake, which geophysicists extrapolated across to the west side. A gravity survey returned a 0.1 - 0.2 milligal anomaly centred over the lake. Soil sampling outlined moderate Cu-Zn anomalies on both sides of the lake, and, although exposure is poor, prospecting identified a gabbro body to the west and pyritic schist altered to a propylitic-argillic assemblage near the anomaly.
Spartan Explorations' 1968 hole intersected carbonaceous phyllite with occasional serpentinite partings from surface to 34 m. From 31 m to the bottom at 77 m, the drill cored dark grey and green argillites. The highest assay was 0.5% Zn, 0.1% Cu and 10.3 g/t Ag across 2.7 m of phyllite.
Marge Enterprises' 1977 drill hole intersected black carbonaceous phyllite, quartz-sericite-chlorite phyllite, and minor chloritic/serpentine partings. Minor chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena were noted but no assays appear to have been taken. Both of Kerr Addison's 1978 drill holes intersected quartz-sericite-phyllites +/- graphite in the top two thirds of the holes followed by massive to banded, mafic volcanic rocks with up to 5% magnetite. No assay results were reported but pyrite was noted throughout both holes.
