Work History
Staked as Pit cl (68993) in Aug/54 by Pelly River EL (Pioneer Gold ML, American Standard ML, New York-Alaska Gold Dredging Corp and Northwest Ventures L) and optioned to Brikon EL, a syndicate composed of Transcontinental Res L, Dome ML, Timmins Corp, Chemical Research Corp, Sapphire Pet L & Yellowknife Bear ML, which conducted a ground mag survey in 1955.
Restaked by Northlake ML (Augustus ML, Silver Standard ML, Copper Ridge ML, Transcontinental Res L and North Pacific ML) as Gee cl (90172) in Jan/66. Later in the year, Northlake flew an airborne mag and EM survey and performed grid soil sampling, mapping and hand trenching.
The Toke cl (YA21495) were staked to the southwest in Jul/77 by Chevron Can L and explored by mapping, soil sampling, hand pitting and ground and radiometric surveys in 1977 and an EM 16 survey in 1979.
Restaked by Cominco Ltd as Canol 1-20 cl in July/94. KRL Resources Ltd staked Canol cl 21-22 (YB70757) and 35-36, 38-40, and 42-46 in Oct/95. The Canol cl 1-20 (YB51288) were transferred to KRL in Dec/95.
The Hot 1-18 claims (YB49632) were staked by Cominco to the northeast in Jun/94. Archer Cathro & Associates (1981) tied the Shot cl 1-36 (YB56059) onto the northern and eastern boundary of the Hot claims in Sept/94. In Mar/96 Archer, Cathro staked Winger cl 1-16 (YB77131) 4 km to the southwest.
In Jul/96 Min Focus International Inc staked Canol cl 47-68 (YB85306).
Capsule Geology
Geological mapping (Murphy et al., 2001) shows the region is dominantly underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Early Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT) that have been intruded by Mississippian granitic intrusions and later Jurassic and Cretaceous intrusions. The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by Late Triassic time.
The area overlies Cretaceous granite and Mississippian Grass Lakes Plutonic Suite metaplutonic rocks (Murphy et al., 2001). Sanders described two showings. The main showing on claim Gee 173 is a large piece of massive sulphide, possibly float, which is 1.5 m in diameter and occurs 4.6 m from an intrusive contact. The massive sulphide mineralization consists mainly of pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite and sphalerite.
The other showing on claim Gee 179 is a vein which is exposed over a length of 6 m. The hanging wall of the vein contains 0.91 m of massive arsenopyrite and tetrahedrite, while the footwall contains 0.9 m of 'reticulated sulphides'. A sample of massive arsenopyrite assayed 68.6 g/t Ag and trace Au. Northlake designated this occurrence as Area 2.
Northlake located three showings. What is apparently Sanders' main showing was designated as Northlake's Showing 2 and consists of massive pyrrhotite float containing traces of chalcopyrite near a gneiss-schist contact. It forms a prominent gossan 60 m by 30 m. All assays were low. Northlake did not sample Sanders' other showing (2a), but found a new showing (2b) consisting of disseminated pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite in amphibolite, associated with a 30 by 5 m gossan. Assays from this new showing were also low.
The Toke claims cover a porphyritic quartz-monzonite stock containing minor fluorite and tourmaline-bearing quartz veins. A local concentration of radioactive aplite float assayed as high as 0.153% U3O8.
