Work History
Staked as A,B,C, etc cl (Y2943) in Apr/66, AH cl (Y7994) in Jun/66 and CU cl (Y17414) in Mar/67 by Riviera ML adjacent to the Leo group of Northlake ML. Riviera purchased the results of an airborne mag and EM survey flown over the property by Atlas EL prior to staking. Riviera cut two grids and conducted mag, Ronka, Turam and gravity surveys, mapping and soil sampling later in the year. In early 1967, one diamond drill hole (116 m) was drilled in an EM conductor near the Northlake boundary.
Capsule Geology
Geological mapping (Murphy et al., 2001) shows the region is dominantly underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Early Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT). The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by Late Triassic time. Volcanic-hosted massive sulphide deposits exist at different stratigraphic positions within the YTT.
The occurrence is underlain by Upper Devonian Fire Lake metavolcanic rocks (Murphy et al., 2001). Mississippian granitic metaplutonic rocks of the Grass Lakes Succession have intruded to the south, and Jurassic granitic intrusions occur to the east. The claims cover the end of an intense magnetic anomaly which extends north and a little east from Riviera Lake across an area with little outcrop. The magnetic pattern is interpreted as an ultramafic body. Six EM conductors were outlined in an area underlain by chlorite-quartz schist around the edge of the ultramafic body.
Mineralized float consisting of pyrrhotite, pyrite and minor chalcopyrite was found at several places near the south end of the lake. Soil samples returned low values. The drill hole cut a 2.4 m zone of quartz-graphite schist with minor chalcopyrite, surrounding a 10 cm band of massive pyrrhotite, which assayed 0.02% Cu and 0.05% Zn.
