Work History
Staked as Gil cl 1-81 (Y7607) in May/66 following airborne mag and EM surveys by Atlas Exploration Company Ltd, which conducted geochemical sampling and mapping later in the year. Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Ltd staked the Bev 126-149 cl (Y83615) 1 to 3 km northwest in Oct/74 following airborne surveys.
Welcome North Mines Ltd staked QC cl 1-48 (YB14263) 2 km to the south in Jul/88. During the summer the company carried out geological mapping, prospecting and soil sampling on the claims and staked QC cl 49-116 (YB15169). The second group of claims covered this occurrence. It appears that no further work was carried out on the claim block.
Cominco Ltd staked Ink cl 1-38 (YB49527) 2 km east of the occurrence in Jun/94 following an airborne EM/mag survey earlier in the year. The company carried out geochemical sampling, geological mapping and prospecting later in the summer. Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd optioned the Ink claims are carried out a geological and geochemical evaluation of the propert in 1997.
Expatriate Resources Ltd staked WC cl 1-20 (YC22587) 2.5 km to the northeast. Expatriate optioned these claims and others to Entourage Mining Ltd in Mar/2003 subject to certain option payments and related work commitments. Entorage carried out a contour soil sampling program in Sep/2003. Entourage dropped the option in Nov/2005.
Capsule Geology
This region of the Yukon-Tanana terrane was remapped by Murphy and others (2001) during the late 1990's and early 2000. The area is underlain by Upper Devonian and older (?) basal units (unit Dqm and Dq) of the Grass Lakes Succession. These units are overlain by Upper Devonian Fire Lakes (unit DF) metavolcanics. Augen textured granitic rocks (unit Mgag) intrude the Grass Lake Succession to the north and a large Cretaceous age granitic intrusion (unit Kg) intrudes the entire sequence to the east.
The actual occurrence lies at the boundary between Devonian and older psammites and Devonian Fire Lake metavolcanics. The Gil claims were staked in a drift covered valley that is apparently underlain a layered sequence of lower Grass Lakes Succession rocks which are intruded by a mid-Cretaceous quartz monzonite stock to the east. Serpentinized ultramafic rocks which Murphy maps to the south were noted as well.
Cominco staked the Ink claims to explore for volcanogenic massive sulphide mineralization similar to that found at Kudz Ze Kayah (Minfile Occurrence #105G 117). Soil sampling returned several weak copper-zinc spot anomalies (highest copper = 77 ppm, zinc=129 ppm). Geological mapping and prospecting failed to uncover evidence of felsic volcanics, which are the host for mineralization at Kudz Ze Kayah or any base metal mineralization of interest.
The WC claims overly Upper Devonian and older (?) psammites and calcareous schists (units Dqm and Dq) which are intruded by Grass Lakes plutonic rocks to the north and a large Cretaceous granitic intrusion to the east. The claims were staked to explore for emerald mineralization found at Regal Ridge (Minfile Occurrence #105G 147) located 40 km to the south east. It was believed that metavolcanic rocks associated with intrusions might host emerald mineralization. Later results from Regal Ridge suggest the presence of ultramafic rocks was essential for emerald mineralization. The Regal Ridge deposit hosts elevated levels of beryllium and chromium in soils. Soil sampling by Entourage returned background levels for the elements in question. The company did not carry out any further work on the WC claims and they were allowed to lapse in Nov/2005.
