Work History

Staked as Sand cl (YA180) in Jul/76 by I. Bolton. A large block of Ran cl (YB9897) was staked to the south in Nov/87 by Prime Capital Corporation. In 1988, the northwest end was optioned to Wildfire Resources Ltd and the southeast end to Halcyon Resources Ltd. Welcome North Mines Ltd added WLN cl (YB10624) to the south side of Prime's claims in Dec/87 and explored by prospecting, soil sampling and airborne magnetic, EM and VLF-EM surveys in 1988.
The Ran claims were transferred to A. Carlos in Feb/92 who transferred most of them to YGC Resources Ltd in Oct/93. In Jul/94 Carlos diamond drilled one hole 41.5 m in depth on one of his remaining claims (Ran 585). In Mar/95 Carlos restaked some of the Ran claims located near Ketza River as Ridge cl 1-19 (YB59247).
Carlos drilled 3 diamond drill holes (146.76m) on Ran claims 587 and 585 in 1995, 1 hole (45.1m) on Ran claim 583 in 1996 and 2 holes (75.3m) on Ran claim 579 in 1997.

Capsule Geology

The 1976 claims are located in an overburden-covered area on a lakeshore and may have been staked to protect surface rights. Most of the 1987 claims are underlain by Lower Palaeozoic metasedimentary rocks but total field magnetic response indicates the central part of the property may be underlain by Tertiary volcanic rocks similar to those at the Grew Creek occurrence (Minfile #105K 009).
Carlos submitted two core samples for petrographic analysis. The results revealed the following information:

0 - 18.2 m overburden
18.2 - 38.6 m crushed breccia or protomylonite
38.6 - 41.5 m microdiorite

The crushed breccia or protomylonite is composed of variable sized clasts of quartzite, limestone and carbonaceous material, in a finely comminuted maxtrix of the same material. It appears to be a tectonized meta-sedimentary sequence. The microdiorite consists of intergrown prismatic plagioclase and altered mafic minerals and is believed to be a dyke or sill. It shows pervasive granulation and recrystallization, and is cut by a system of carbonate-filled microfractures. These incipient cataclastic effects indicate close proximity to the fault zone. The 1995 drilling intersected similar lithologies and assay results were less than <28 ppb gold (Carlos, 1995).
The 1996 drill hole intersected mainly consolidated overburden containing short intersections of a silicified, carbonate altered material. Hole number 5 (1997) intersected quartz-feldspar porphyry, followed by a lapilli tuff, and a narrow, fine grained dyke before bottoming in a ash tuff. Hole number 6 intersected a similar lithology as hole number 5 with the addition of a section of black laminated mudstone occuring between the porphyry and the lapilli tuff intersections. None of the holes returned any economic intersections.
