Work History
The Moose and Sheep claims (69921) were staked as fringe claims around the Hoey showing (Minfile Occurrence #105F 055) in Sep/54 by Prospectors Airways Company Ltd on behalf of a syndicate which included Noranda Exploration Company Ltd and Kerr Addison Gold Mines Ltd. The syndicate carried out trenching in 1955.
Restaked as Sid cl (75878) in Jul/61 by G.F. Dickson and as Eva cl (89101) in Feb/65 by a joint venture between Stump Mines Ltd and Silver Key Mines Ltd, which carried out grid soil sampling and bulldozer trenching in 1966, drilled 5 holes (289.6 m) in 1967, and completed more than 427 m of underground development in 1968-69. Silver Key changed its name to Nordev Resources Ltd in Feb/72; optioned the Stump interest in Aug/74; conducted a small feasibility study in 1975; and then abandoned its interests in the area.
Restaked in Mar/76 as Camp cl 5-8 (Y94453) by H. Regehr and associates, who carried out bulldozer trenching before forming a new company, Iona Silver Mines Ltd. Iona carried out additional trenching in 1977-78, drilled 3 holes (160.3 m) in 1978 on Camp cl 2. In Aug/79, Argorex Gesellschaft Zur obtained first right of refusal for production financing through an Iona option to TRV Minerals Corporation, which retained a 5% net smelter interest. In 1980, the lower adit was advanced 66.8 m.
Iona's claims were optioned in 1985 by Canamax Resources Inc, which carried out geochemical sampling and geophysical surveying later in the year. In 1987, Iona changed its name to Aigner Holdings Ltd and Canamax drilled one hole (95.1 m) on Camp cl 7. The claims were transferred back to Aigner Holdings in Dec/89.
Restaked as AT cl 1-4 (YB91866) in Nov/98 by Archer, Cathro and Associates (1981) Ltd which holds them on behalf of a private syndicate. A property examination was carried out in Jun/2000 for the syndicate at which time limited rock geochemical sampling was completed.
Capsule Geology
The A-1 vein was discovered by soil sampling in 1966 and was trenched for a length of over 850 m, of which 247 m grades 853.6 g/t Ag and 22.2% Pb over a width of 1.2 m. The vein strikes north, dips 60¿ west, and cuts Upper Cambian and Lower Ordovician thin bedded silty limestone. Mineralization consists of fine grained (steel) galena and pyrite with minor sphalerite, tetrahedrite and arsenopyrite in a carbonate gangue.
Drifting about 37 m below the surface outcrop developed a 202 m length grading 329.1 g/t Ag and 7.5% Pb over a 1.2 m width. A raise driven from the adit to within 3 m of surface graded 582.8 g/t Ag and 16.5% Pb over an average width of 1.4 m for a length of 40 m. In 1975, Nordev Resources released a pre-feasibility report which reported proven reserves of 36 280 tonnes grading 8.4% Pb and 353.1 g/t Ag (a search of records in the Energy Mines and Resources Library, Yukon Government could not locate a copy of the prefeasibility report).
The A-1 vein was cut at 251 m in the lower adit, where it was 1.5 m wide and weakly mineralized. Sixty-one metres from the collar, the lower adit intersected a 3.7 m wide unmineralized vein. The 1987 drilling did not intersect any significant mineralization.
Archer, Cathro¿s property examination in 2000 was hampered by lingering snow cover in the area but did serve to obtain valuable information pretaining to logistical limitations and mineability of the vein.
