Work History
Staked as Mag cl (86401) in Apr/63 by Newmont following the release of GSC aeromag maps. Newmont conducted further airborne mag and EM surveys and prospected the adjacent area in 1963. Old pits and claim posts were found on Horton Creek, about 610 m north of the highway. Restaked in Jun/65 as Sas cl (89119) by Frobex L (British Met Can L, Conwest and McIntyre Porcupine ML), which drilled 3 holes (252 m) in 1966, formed a new company to develop the claims, Bruce Lake ML, and drilled 4 holes (435.5 m) in 1968 in a joint venture with Augustus EL.
The Horn cl (Y84043) were staked on the north side in Mar/75 by A. Carlos, who conducted mag, EM and geochem surveys and drilled 1 hole (61.0 m) later in the year near Hoole Canyon, about 3.2 km north. Restaked as Lukeshane cl (YA71079) in Jun/84 by A. Carlos, who performed VLF and mag surveys in 1985 and hand trenching in 1986. Tally-Ho ECL acquired the property in Jan/87, tied on LS cl (YB1352) in Sep/87, and later transferred the claims to Ranger Pacific ML, which returned them to Carlos in Sep/88.
In Mar/89, Carlos optioned the claims to Noranda ECL which performed mapping, prospecting, HLEM and magnetometer surveys and trenching before returning them to Carlos in Nov/89. The property was optioned in fall 1991 to Canadian Comstock Exploration Ltd which conducted a VLF-EM survey over Nickel Lake and drilled three holes totalling 286.8 m.
Capsule Geology
The property covers an area of glacial till on the northeast edge of the Tintina Trench. Despite a lack of outcrop, the bedrock geology has been pieced together from an interpretation of the regional geology, float, geophysical surveys and old drillholes. Volcanic breccia of probable Tertiary age overlies siliceous metasedimentary rocks of the Anvil Allochthon.
Newmont found greyish-green pyroxenite containing up to 25% pyrrhotite, 0.28% Cu and 0.1% Ni at Float Lake and on Horton Creek north of the highway. The 1965-68 drilling, which tested EM and mag anomalies on the north side of Float Lake, cut scattered sulphides in siliceous layered sediments and a serpentinite sill of Permian age. The best intersection was 0.39% Cu and 0.52% Ni over less than 1 m. Sludge samples assayed up to 94.6 g/t Ag. The 1975 hole was drilled downdip on an EM and magnetic anomaly and intersected weakly altered unmineralized carbonate and pyritic graphite schist of probable Lower Paleozoic age.
In 1987, a VLF survey located a linear structure containing siliceous breccia and banded chalcedony. Float specimens of siliceous material returned up to 6.8 g/t Au, 41 g/t Ag and 0.43% Pb.
The 1989 magnetometer survey outlined several narrow anomalies which were interpreted as peridotite dykes. A float sample from Trench #1 returned anomalous gold and arsenic values.
The 1991 drill holes intersected felsic volcanic breccia and tuff, graphitic shear zones and mafic porphyry dykes. Up to 5% disseminated and fracture filling pyrite and pyrrhotite was encountered in the graphitic shear zones and brecciated volcanic rocks. The highest silver value was 3.6 ppm over 1.5 m from felsic volcanic breccia. The highest gold value, from the same breccia, was 280 ppb over 2.7 m.
