Work History
Staked as Eros cl 1-8 (YA617) in Aug/76 by a joint venture between Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation and Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Company Ltd. The companies carried out soil geochemical sampling, magnetometer and EM surveying in 1977 and geological mapping, geochemical sampling and drilled one hole (267.2 m) in 1978.
Restaked within Eve cl 1-138 (YA99622) in Dec/86 by Mountain Province Mining Inc, which carried out geological mapping, silt, contour soil and rock sampling and prospecting in 1987; contour soil sampling and geological mapping east of the occurrence in 1988; and IP geophysical surveying in 1989, as well as relogging the 1978 drill core.
In Oct/94, Mountain Province staked Wild cl 1-36 (YB56404) contiguously to the north-northwest of the eight remaining Eve claims. The company carried out soil sampling in 1995 and soil sampling and trenching in 1997.
Restaked as Eros cl 1-4 (YB93599) in Feb/2002 by Eagle Plains Resources Ltd which carried out geological mapping, silt and soil sampling, prospecting and located and resampled several trenches dug by previous operators. In Jul/2002 the company staked Eros cl 5-14 (YB93802) to the west thereby covering prospective stratigraphy in the area and joining the claims with the neighboring Fire (Minfile Occurrence #105F 071) and Ice (Minfile Occurrence #105F 073) properties.
Capsule Geology
This occurrence lies about 1.6 km north of an occurrence of minor copper in phyllite noted by the Geological Survey of Canada in the late 1950¿s. The area is underlain by Mississippian felsic volcanic rocks faulted against Devonian to Mississippian phyllite, shale and carbonate. Regionally, mafic dykes of unknown age as well as Mississippian syenite intrude the sedimentary and volcanic rocks.
A 140 by 450 m gossanous zone of ferricrete is developed down slope from the fault. The zone is strongly anomalous in Pb, Zn, Ag, Cu, As and Au and has been traced back upslope by soil sampling and trenching. The 1978 Cyprus Anvil drill hole was collared 200 m north of the ferricrete zone and intersected unmineralized volcanic and sedimentary lithologies.
Mountain Province originally speculated that a potentially mineralized interval, if weathered, may have been lost as overburden in the top 25.1 m of the drill hole. Results of subsequent soil sampling carried out by the company suggests that the source of the anomaly may lie upslope and to the north of where Cyprus Anvil collared their drill hole.
Eagle Plains Resources¿ exploration program was centered over Eros cl 1-4, located at the eastern end of the claim block. The rock, soil and silt geochemical results mirrored those reported by previous operators and returned elevated values in many elements considered indicative of volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization. In addition the company¿s work indicates that the ferricrete/gossan zone probably extends well above the 1978 drill collar location. Soil samples collected northeast of the zone are generally higher in copper while the ferricrete/gossan zone samples are higher in gold and silver. Limited geological mapping carried out by Eagle Plains suggests that the Eros claims share a common depositional, alteration and tectonic history with the adjoining Fire and Ice (Minfile Occurrences #105F 071 and 073) properties.
