Work History
This area was extensively prospected in the 1920's. A few claims were recorded in this area in 1923. Staked by J. Mohagen in Oct/60 as Sam cl (75222) and in Aug/62 as Wopus cl (77913), which were hand trenched and sold to Boswell River ML about 1965. Boswell River added Star cl (Y743) in Feb/66 and performed minor trenching and sampling.
Restaked as Bug cl (YA8036) in Aug/76 by Tintina Silver ML, which hand trenched in 1977, and as Ann cl (YA22802) in Jul/78 by a joint venture between Placer Dev L and Newmont, and as Gub & Bos cl (YA48029) in Oct/79 by Golden Empire ML, which trenched in 1980 and 1981 and performed mapping, geochem sampling and road construction in 1982.
Capsule Geology
Galena occurs in quartz lenses within a thin (1-2 m) dolomite layer which lies between a tuff unit to the south and quartz-sericite schist to the north. The schist resembles the Klondike Schist (Permian).
Sevensma reported two assays from galena-bearing quartz veins on claims Wopus 19 and 20. The samples were collected 18.3 m apart and assayed 72.0 g/t Ag and 2.1% Pb across 7 cm and 75.4 g/t Ag and 2.2% Pb across 90 cm.
Another zone immediately to the west is associated with a porphyry dyke and is discontinuously exposed for a length of 37 m.
