Work History
A few quartz claims were staked in this area in 1923 but no records have been found. A 36.6 m adit and several open cuts had been completed here by 1934 when the area was first visited by the GSC.
Restaked as Hazel cl (4572) in Jun/46 by J. Johns, as Sid cl (60741) in Jun/52 by J. Mohagen, and as the Mobs cl (66529) in Aug/53 by M. Baird. Restaked as Wopus cl (77913) in Aug/62 by Mohagen and sold in May/66 to Boswell River ML, which added the Star cl (Y8012) in May/66 and performed hand trenching, mapping, geochem sampling and EM surveys in 1966-68. J. Suits added Hill cl (Y20998) in Sep/67.
Restaked as AG cl (Y75836) in Jul/73 by El Paso Mg & Milling C, which performed mapping and soil sampling in 1973 and 1974, and as Ann cl (YA22802) in Jul/78 by a joint venture between Placer Dev L and Newmont, which performed a geochem survey later in the year.
Restaked as BOS & GE cl (YA48275) in Oct/79 by H. Rail, etc and transferred to a new company, Golden Empire ML, which performed linecutting and trenching in 1980 and 1981 and mapping, geochem sampling and road construction in 1982.
Restaked as Star cl 1-16 (YB66593) by 13744 Yukon Inc in Feb/96.
Capsule Geology
Galena occurs in quartz lenses within a thin (1-2 m) dolomite horizon at the contact between a tuff unit to the south and quartz-sericite schist to the north.
Galena and minor amounts of molybdenite also occur in quartz veins at the contact between a Cretaceous batholith and metasedimentary rocks of unknown age which resemble the Klondike Schist (Permian). The veins are up to 9.2 m wide, and the adit reportedly cut a 4.6 m vein. Three grab samples collected by the GSC assayed 740 to 1566.8 g/t Ag and trace Au.
Soil sampling outlined a number of coincident lead-silver anomalies near a 640 by 37 m area where quartz stockwork comprises about 10% of the rock. Assays of 62 rock samples collected by El Paso averaged 68.57 g/t Ag and 0.8% Pb.
