Work History

Coal float was reported in Walsh Creek prior to 1938. Limited prospecting was done in the area by Anvil Mining Corporation Ltd in 1966.
Coal Exploration Licence 6 was issued to Atlas Exploration Ltd in 1969, which carried out prospecting in 1970.
In Nov/76, Coal Exploration Licence 59 (covering the NW quarter of claim map sheet 105E/15, including this occurrence) and Coal Exploration Licence 58 and 60 (covering the NE and SE quarters of 105E/15, respectively) were issued to Kerr Addison Mines Ltd. Kerr Addison carried out ground and airborne geophysical surveying and geological mapping in 1977.

Capsule Geology

Anvil located several seams of poor grade shaly coal less than 0.6 m thick in the Upper Jurassic Tantalus Fm. Coal float was found by Atlas for another 6.4 km further upstream but the source was not located. The float in Walsh Creek is probably derived from this area. The Tantalus Formation underlies more than 130 square kilometres in this area.
