Work History
Staked as Bear cl 1-56 (YA77973) in Jul/83 by AGIP Canada Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1983. Shakwak Exploration Company Ltd and AGIP formed a joint venture and explored with geochemical, IP and resistivity surveying and 3 rotary holes (421 m) in 1985 and 21 diamond drill holes (2 087.1 m) in 1986.
M. Langlois tied on Havi cl 1-36 & Wal cl 66-77(YA93945) to the east in Nov/85 and optioned them in 1986 to Walhalla Exploration Company Ltd (S. Ridgway and M. Barker), which carried out geological mapping and soil sampling. The claims were transferred to Skukum Ventures Inc, which performed mapping and sampling in 1987 in a joint venture with Berglynn Resources Ltd and tied on Net cl 1-78 (YB6231) to the north in Jul/87. Berglynn changed its name to Arkona Resources Inc in Mar/92.
Skukum Ventures staked Vin cl 3-109 (YB07319) to the west in 1988 and carried out geological mapping, prospecting, sampling and trenching that year and soil sampling in 1989.
The Wal cl were transferred in Feb/89 to Aquiline Resources Inc, which trenched later that year, before relinquishing the claims to Walhala in 1990. Galleon Mining Ltd purchased a 20% interest in Walhala in Dec/91.
Restaked as the Benji 1-12 cl (YB38120) in Jul/93 by Summit Ventures which carried out prospecting and sampling in July/94.
Restaked as CW cl 1-24 (YB67004) by BYG Natural Resources Ltd in May/96, which transferred ownership of the claims to Omni Resources Inc (50%) and Trumpeter Yukon Gold Inc (50%) in Oct/96. Omni and Trumpeter carried out contour soil/talus sampling in 1997 and one day of prospecting and sampling in 2000.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence is located on an eastern lobe of the Eocene Skukum Volcanic Complex. Rhyolite to dacite ash flow tuffs occur in fault contact with quartz monzonite of Jurassic age. Anomalous gold and mercury values are associated with quartz vein swarms located along major fracture systems. The 1986 drilling intersected favourable host rocks but low assays were obtained.
On the Havi and Wal claims, Walhala reported precious metals in massive and chalcedonic quartz veins and shear zones cutting the granodiorite. The best showing is the East Zone where the veins contain quartz, pyrite, galena and chalcopyrite with minor carbonate, sphalerite and schist fragments. Soil samples returned up to 5 400 ppb Au, 37 ppm Ag and 1 580 ppm Pb, while a galena-bearing specimen of vein material assayed 93.1 g/t Au, 83.5 g/t Ag and 0.14% Pb.
No significant precious or base metal values were detected during sampling completed on the east and north sides of Vesuvius Hill by Omni and Trumpeter and the claims subsequently lapsed.
