Staked as Ridge cl 1-14 (Y67077) in Aug/72 by J. Woodcock, which were transferred to Adastral Resources Ltd and optioned briefly to Jorex Ltd and Dome Exploration (Canada) Ltd, which performed mapping and hand trenching in 1973. Kennco (Canada) Ltd tied on Goat cl 1-16 (YA51940) in Sep/80 and performed mapping and geochem surveys in 1981. Adastral trenched in 1986, optioned the Kennco claims and performed mapping and sampling in 1987, prospected and drilled 7 holes (381 m) in 1988, and performed hand trenching and metallurgical testing in 1989.
Adastral dropped its option on the Kennco claims in Jul/91, but maintained its own claims in the area. R. Bilquist tied on Aul cl 1-24 (YA87137) to the northwest in Jun/85, performed geochem surveys in 1985 and 1986 and optioned the claims to Sirius Resources Corporation Ltd, which carried out mapping and geochemical sampling in 1987. Adastral Resources staked the Ken 1-2 cl (YB46472) in Nov/93.
Restaked as Met cl 1-42 (YC09290) in Feb/99 by Tiberon Minerals Ltd which carried out a preliminary program of geological mapping, trenching, sampling and magnetometer and VLF-EM geophysical surveys in Jun/99. In late Jul/99 the company drilled 4 diamond drill holes (415.9m) and added Met cl 43-48 (YC1787).

Capsule Geology

The property lies near the centre of the Eocene Bennett Lake Caldera, a circular (23 km diameter) sequence of flat lying tuffs and ignimbrites bounded by a discontinuous ring dyke. The Bennett Lake Caldera occurs within crystalline rocks of the Coast Plutonic complex. Four areas of vein and stringer mineralization up to 270 m long and 100 m wide have been identified in the surrounding volcanic rocks.
The original discovery made by Woodcoock (1973) consists of two vein systems; MacAuley Creek West (occurrence ¿A¿) and MacAuley Creek East (occurrence ¿B¿), also referred to as the Discovery showing in some reports. Later exploration located the Jake showing, south of occurrence ¿A¿ and the Mouse showing located east of occurrence ¿B¿. Numerous other small vein systems have been reported in the area.
At the Discovery occurrence (occurrence ¿B¿), gold and silver occur in steeply dipping quartz veins in a 30 m wide alteration zone. Vein minerals include arsenopyrite, pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite and argentite associated with chalcedonic quartz, carbonate and occasionally fluorite gangue. Specimens of float assayed up to 33 599 g/t Ag, 33.3 g/t Au, 2% Cu, 3% Pb and 1% Zn. Mineralization is erratic and individual zones range from a few centimetres to about 2 metres in width. A chip sample from the Discovery occurrence assayed 5 974.2 g/t Ag and 6.9 g/t Au across 1.8 metres.
Prospecting by Bilquist in 1986, west of Occurrence ¿A¿, on the Aul claims, located a number of silver in quartz veins, samples of which assayed up to 339.4 g/t Ag.
In 1988 the source of the Mouse showing was discovered with the surface discovery of two north-striking high-grade silver veins (Steve and Connie), approximately 1 km east of occurrence ¿B¿. Chip sampling of the veins returned up to 6 102.7 g/t Ag and 67.5 g/t Au over 2.1 m at the Steve vein, and 11 663.7 g/t Ag and 1.0 g/t Au over 1.6 m at the Connie vein. A series of chip samples across the Steve vein in 1989 averaged 3 119.9 g/t Ag and 6.0 g/t Au over 1.8 m along a 76 m strike length. Preliminary flotation tests recovered 95% of the silver and 90% of the gold from a zinc-lead-pyrite concentrate with an 8.3:1 concentration ratio.
Tiberon Minerals restaked most of the veins located in the area except for those located at occurrence ¿B¿, which were covered by competitor claims. The company focused their attention on the area around the Steve and Connie veins. The first phase of their exploration program uncovered 4 additional veins in the immediate vicinity of the Steve and Connie veins. These veins labeled the Brian, Tom, Mike and Dave veins range in strike length from 5 to 25 m and average between 0.5 and 1.2 m in width. Economic potential of these veins are limited due to their relatively short strike lengths.
Eight trenches totalling 47 m were excavated by hand; six on the Connie vein and the remaining two on the North fault. Trench samples collected across the Connie vein ranged from 34 g/t to 5 314 g/t Ag while samples collected from the North fault returned less than 34 g/t Ag. None of the samples returned gold values greater than 0.3 g/t . Neither the VLF or magnetics surveys identifed any significant structures but this may have been a result of its limited size.
Tiberon¿s drill program focused on the Steve and Connie veins. Two drill holes were collared on each vein to test mineralization at depth. The best results were obtained on the Connie vein which returned 211.5 g/t Ag and 0.71 g/t Au over a true thickness of 6.5 m.
