Work History

Staked as Lucky cl 1-10 (74352) in Aug/59 by C. Edwards and H. Woodward; restaked as Kid cl 1-2 (75104) in Aug/60 by L. Bellerive; as AN cl 1-8 (90259) in Jun/64 by K. Lumsden; as Owl cl 1-40 (Y11742) in Jan/67 by A. Jackson; as Axe cl 1-4 (Y18323) in Jun/67 by L. Doey; as Ben cl 1-18 (Y23913) in Feb/68 by A. Nelson and A. Parker who added Fly cl 1-24 (Y25125). The only assessment work filed during this time was for bulldozer trenching on the Axe group.
In Aug/70, New Imperial Mines Ltd staked a large group of Lome cl (Y53693) northeast of the Axe group, but did not file any assessment work. Restaked as Tom cl 1-4 (Y75535) in Jun/73 by L.G. Barrett, who restaked Tom cl 1 and 3 (YA48384) in Oct/79; and as Ria cl 1-40 & Les cl 1-4 and 20-29 (YA49033) in Jun/80 by D. Branigan, which were refused because of a conflict with the Alaska Highway Pipeline Corridor.
Restaked as NI cl 1-6 (YB57993) by B. Carter in Jul/95. Carter spent 24 days prospecting, trail building and rehabilitating and sampling old trenches excavated by Doey in the late 1960's. The property was visited twice in 1995 by Kennecott Canada Inc and Hemlo Gold Mines Inc and on the basis of sampling completed at this time Carter staked Ni cl 7-30 (YB67244) in Jul/96. The claims were then optioned by RFH Investments who carried out geological mapping, prospecting, geochemcial sampling, magnetic and EM geophysical surveying between September and Nov/96.
In Oct/96 D. Cosgrove staked Raz cl 1-10 (YB96962) on the south side of the Ni claims, which were restaked as Per cl 1-20 (YC08501) by C. Takkas in Dec/97. J. Martin staked Dap cl 1-16 (YC08485) on the north and east sides of the Ni claims, also in Dec/97.

Capsule Geology

Minor chalcopyrite occurs with pyrite in weakly developed diopside skarn at the contact between Upper Triassic Lewes River Group limestone (likely the Norian aged Hancock Member) and the Mt. Lorne Pluton, a Late Cretaceous quartz monzonite intrusion.
Carter described the area as dominated by resistant thick massive beds of light grey limestone and limestone conglomerate containing thin beds of rusty weathering black calcareous siltstone. These rocks are cross cut by at least three phases of felsic and intermediate dykes. The latest (?) phase consists of a dark matrix cut by thin white quartz veins, and contains coarse-grained stubby arsenopyrite ranging from sparse disseminations to locally dense massive accumulations of greater than 50%. Samples collected from this phase returned up to 33.25 g/t Au.
An earlier phase (?) consists of a lighter matrix rich in plagioclase, quartz and biotite phenocrysts but void of fine quartz veins. It also contains coarse grained stubby to fine grained disseminated arsenopyrite and thin arsenopyrite veinlets. Samples returned up to 5.76 g/t Au.
Prospecting during 1996 led to the discovery of a copper showing at the southern end of the Ni claim block, a grab sample of which returned 4 699 ppm Cu, 1.9 ppm Ag and 20 ppb Au. Weakly anomalous values were returned from other sampling carried out elsewhere on the property at this time. The highest values (60 ppb Au, 1 521 As) were associated with intrusive dykes.
