Work History

Staked as Striker Pass cl 1-6 (73777) in Aug/58 by J. Hanna.
Restaked as Strike cl 1-4 (Y9638) in Jun/66 and optioned in August by B.C. Yukon Asbestos Company Ltd (later B.C. Yukon Exploration Company Ltd), which explored with hand pitting and 6 x-ray holes (about 152 m) in the summer of 1966 and added J cl 1-4 (Y10131) in Aug/66 and T cl 1-8 (Y10368) and B cl 1-4 (Y10376) in Sep/66. The company carried out soil sampling in 1968 and added John cl 1-8(Y25630), June cl 1-4 (Y25644) and Roger cl 1-8 (Y25805) in Aug/68. In Feb/69 the company staked Bob cl 1-8 (Y30329). Later in the summer of 1969 the company carried out trenching and sampling later in the summer.
In Feb/71 control of the claims was acquired by Spartan Explorations Ltd, which carried out a small surface sampling program later in the year.
Restaked as Don cl 1-8 (Y80302) in Aug/74 by Dawson Range Mines Ltd, and as Hope cl 1-6 (YA7894) in Aug/76 by Amax Exploration Inc, which explored with mapping and soil sampling later in the year. G. Salmins restaked Lime cl 1-4 (YA23844) 2.4 km to the southeast in Nov/78.
The showing was restaked as Cloud cl 1-40 (YA24157) in May/79 by El Paso Energy Corporation and optioned to Placer Development Ltd, which added Cloud cl 41-81 in Sep/80 drilled 3 holes (457 m) in Oct/80 before dropping the option.
Restaked as Ram cl 39-86 (YC26660) in Mar/2004 by B. Harris. The claims are part of a larger claim block known as the Rams Horn Property. Harris optioned the property to Ordorado Resources Corp later in the year. In the summer of 2004 Ordorado flew an airborne geophysical survey over the entire property.

Capsule Geology

The occurrence is located on the eastern side of Windy Arm Lake on the west central boundary of topographic map sheet 105D 01, near the border with British Columbia. J.O. Wheeler mapped the area at 1:250 000 scale in 1961 and the area has not been updated since. Hart and Radloff, re-mapped topographic map sheet 105D 02 to the east in 1990 as part of a larger 1:50 000 scale regional mapping program and extrapolation of their work was used by Gordey and Makepeace (2001) in the production of their Yukon geology compilation.
The area lies within the northern portion of the Cache Creek terrane, a belt of oceanic rocks that extend the length of the Cordilleran in British Columbia northwards into southern Yukon. The geological history of the terrane is generally not well understood and this is especially true of the portion located in the Yukon. In recent years M. Mihalynuk of the British Columbia Geological Survey and others have carried out research in the northern portion of the terrane near Atlin, B.C. (approximately 75 km to southeast) which has increased the knowledge base and has led to the area being referred to as the Atlin Complex.
Based on regional geology and assessment reports filed with the Government of Yukon, the occurrence is underlain by altered volcanic and clastic sedimentary rocks assigned to the Cache Creek terrane. A biotite-quartz monzonite intrusion intrudes the sequence. Hart and Radloff assigned a Carboniferous to Permian age to the Cache Creek rocks and an Early Tertiary to the intrusion. Geological mapping completed by Mihalynuk to the south suggests that the Cache Creek rocks may range in age from Mississippian through to Lower Jurassic. Milhalynuk¿s research (1999) also suggests that based on stream sediment geochemical response of other intrusions located in the region, this intrusion is likely Late Cretaceous in age. Hart (pers. comm., 2004) concurs with Milhalynuk's position and reports that this intrusion is mineralogically different from the Early Tertiary intrusions and thus likely Late Cretaceous.
Rich pockets and rosettes of molybdenite are associated with quartz veins 0.3 to 5 cm wide that form a stockwork zone about 760 m long and 150 m wide within a monzonite stock. Molybdenite also occurs as small rosettes and fine disseminations in weak alteration envelopes up to a metre from the veins. Soil sampling by various companies outlined 3 principal molybdenite/ copper anomalies, the largest of which is centred over the intrusion.
Magnetic relief is quite flat. Fracture density is weak and overall grade is low. The best assays from the 1966 drilling were 0.027% MoS2 and 0.05% Cu across 18.2 m. Sampling of 31 trenches in 1969 gave assays ranging from 0.004% MoS2 across 2.4 m to 0.756% MoS2 across 1.5 m.
The 1980 drilling reportedly intersected numerous mineralized veinlets and disseminated intervals of molybdenite mineralization. No assays were filed thus grades are unknown.
In Oct/2004, consultants employed by Ordorado Resources Corporation and a geologist employed by the Yukon Geological Survey made a brief visit to the property. They located several of the old drill sites and collected several rock samples containing either rosettes or disseminated molybdenite (assays not available). Poor weather forced the group to cut the visit short.
