Exploration History

First staked in Aug/62 as Dawn cl (81772) by M. Kroyden, who built an access road and did some bulldozer trenching in 1963. Restaked as Hidden Minerals and Mineral Spring cl (Y8289) in Jun/66 by Joe Lindsay to cover a GSC aeromag anomaly. Newmont optioned the claims briefly in 1966 and conducted geochemical and ground mag surveys and staked additional claims (Gossan, Spring, and Mineral groups). Atlas EL conducted a small EM survey in 1967.

A new company, Trans Yukon EL, was formed in Nov/67 to develop the property and an airborne mag, EM and radiometric survey was flown and extensive bulldozer trenching and more geophysical surveys were done in 1968 and 1969. The property was optioned briefly in 1968 by Arrow Inter-America Corp L.

Restaked by Lindsay as Lindsay cl (Y66684) in Jun/72, which he explored with EM16 and EM17 surveys and 4 holes (404.77 m) in 1972-73. Lindsay restaked a previous drill target as CL and ML cl (Y66684) in Jul/77, drilled 3 holes (338.02 m) and added more Lindsay cl in 1978 (YA23779, YA22648) and Sep/80 (YA51470). Both properties were transferred in 1982 to Yukon O & G Dev, which restaked the southwest drill target as Lindsay cl (YA78085) in Aug/83 and performed mapping and geochem surveys in 1983, 1984 and 1988. R.J. Lindsay filed $2800 of drilling on the Lindsay claims in 1992.

Drew MacDonald restaked the property as PGMC cl (YB8974) in Nov/87, tied on Quiet cl (YB13912) in Jun/88, performed reconnaissance geochemistry and trenched the northeast target in 1988, and performed linecutting on the CL and trenching on the Lindsay claims in 1989. Yukon Oil and Gas performed blast trenching on the Lindsay, ML, and CL cl in Aug/93, and further sampling on the Lindsay cl in Nov/93.

Capsule Geology

The original staking followed the discovery of copper float in an area of extensive overburden. Transported iron-manganese gossans are common and are related to bodies of serpentinized dunite and peridotite. Moderately anomalous copper and nickel values coincide with magnetic and IP anomalies which are probably caused by magnetite and sulphides in the ultramafic rocks.

The drilling tested a coincident IP and EM16 anomaly at the contact between a peridotite stock and Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks. The anomaly was found to be caused by abundant pyrrhotite and pyrite (up to 20%) and traces of chalcopyrite in a zone about 100 m wide which follows the contact. The best assay was 0.03% Cu and 0.01% Ni from between 21 and 24 m in Hole 2.

Resampling of the core in 1983 returned low precious metal values, including 3.0 g/t Au and 26.0 g/t Ag from Hole 1. One trench specimen assayed 1000 ppb Hg.
Two silt samples taken from Quiet Creek in 1988 returned 175 and 459 ppb Au, and one contained 50 ppb Pt. A specimen of ultramafic rock contained 1600 ppm Ni.
