Work History
Noted by GSC in 1955 and investigated with mapping and sampling by Wolf Lake JV (Ashland O Can L; Rayrock ML; Can Ind G & OL; Caltor Synd) in 1971. First staked as Angie cl (83135) in Jul-Sep/74 by Hudson Bay Mg, which explored with mapping, geochem sampling, hand trenching and 3 holes (140.5 m) in 1974 and more sampling, an IP survey and 4 holes (361.2 m) in 1975.
Restaked as Com cl (YA35720) in Nov/78 by the Wolf Lake Project (Comaplex Res Int L and Dayton Creek Silver ML). The Source cl (YA67272) were tied on to the south in Sep/81 by a joint venture between SEREM L and Samim Can L, which explored with prospecting in 1981 and geochemical sampling and mapping in 1982.
Restaked as SHA cl (YA73451) in Jun/85 by Shakwak ECL in a joint venture with Nordac Mg Corp. Shakwak performed mapping and geochem sampling in 1985 and bulldozer trenching in 1986 and 1987 under an option. Nordac changed its name to Big Creek Res L in 1987.
Capsule Geology
Galena and sphalerite occur with quartz and fluorite in veinlets and disseminated in diopside-magnetite skarn that has formed in an Early Paleozoic schist-gneiss sequence, near a granodiorite stock. The best assay obtained in the 1974 drilling was 0.05% Zn, 0.07% Pb and 4.1 g/t Ag from 50.0 to 50.4 m in Hole A1 on the Angie 4 claim.
Scheelite occurs in a skarn developed in rocks of the Late Proterozoic-Early Cambrian Hyland Group near the margin of the Cassiar Batholith on the Source cl. Specimens of fairly massive fluorite gave assays of up to 0.8% WO3, in 1971, while a specimen of sphalerite-bearing diopside-pyrrhotite skarn assayed 3.2% Zn, 24.0 g/t Ag and less than 0.1% Pb and Cu.
In 1985, Shakwak reported assays of galena float as high as 3771.3 g/t Ag with 2.5% Pb. Most 1986 trenches failed to reach bedrock and those that did returned only weakly anomalous silver and lead values. The best assays were from float boulders exposed on trench walls. Specimens of the float contained up to 10% galena and sphalerite and assayed up to 202.3 g/t Ag.
