Work History
Staked as the KP claims in July 1944 by Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Co., which undertook mapping and sampling, and drilled 9 holes (1256.7 m) over the entire property in 1945. Restaked by W. McKinnon as the Mac cl (76984) in Aug/61, and optioned in 1961-62 by Kootenay Base Met L, which performed hand trenching; and in 1965 by Logjam Silver ML (Macassa Gold ML), which commenced underground drifting and drilling. This work was continued by the owners in 1966 through a private company, Nitset EL, which went public as Pure Silver ML. Work completed from 1965 to 1967 included 698.0 m of drifting on two levels, 794.6 m of underground drilling and 24 km of road.
The property was restaked as Barb cl (Y72102) in Jan/73 by A.M.P. EL, which repaired the road in 1973 and optioned the claims from 1974 to 1977 to Darva Res & Dev L, which added more Barb cl (Y83362) in Sep/74 and performed-minor rehabilitation work. The property was optioned by Rebel Dev L in 1979, which built an access road in 1980 and 1981, and by Pure Silver ML, which installed a complete trailer camp and reopened the 5150 level adit.
The claims reverted in 1982 to A.M.P., which performed a legal survey in 1982 and explored underground with 7 holes (414.9 m) targeting Vein 6 and 17 m of drifting in 1987 and road building in 1988. In Dec/92 the Barb and Log claims were transferred to 7188 Yukon Ltd. The area was restaked as M2 cl 1-13 (YB93637) in Apr/2002 by F. Andersen. CMC Metals optioned the remaining M2 claims and staked the L.J. claims in 2006. CMC metals sampled the surface showings and investigated the underground workings in 2018.
Capsule Geology
The Logjam Property lies within a belt of Yukon-Tanana Terrane rocks. This belt of rocks is part of an accreted island arc assemblage consisting of bi-modal volcanics, coeval plutons and sedimentary rocks, as well as younger Jurassic and Cretaceous intrusions. The main units in the area are Devono-Mississippian Finlayson Group intermediate to mafic meta-volcanic and volcaniclastic and meta-sedimentary rocks, plutonic rocks of the Early Jurassic Long Lake Suite and siliciclastic rocks of the Triassic Jones Lake(?) Formation.
The Logjam property consists of eight quartz-sulphide fault veins containing gold, silver, lead and zinc associated with galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, pyrite and minor chalcopyrite. Minor amounts of bismuth, antimony and tungsten mineralization are also present.
The Main Vein 6 occurrence is hosted in Early Jurassic Long Lake Suite hornblende diorite. Vein 6 is a northeasterly striking, steeply dipping, oxidized quartz-carbonate vein with pyrite and sphalerite exposed on a northwest-trending ridge. Surface sampling of the vein in 2018 (sample 1319604) returned an assay of 3.7 g/t Au, 0.7% Pb, >1% Zn and >100 g/t Ag.
Sampling of underground drift mineralization in 1966-67 assayed the following (AR 061967):
Location Length (m) Width (m) Au (g/t) Ag (g/t) Pb (%) Zn (%)
5150 Level, 6 Vein East 12.2 0.73 5.5 750.8 2.5 3.1
5150 Level, 6 Vein West 35.0 0.85 4.6 528.0 4.8 3.4
5600 Level, 6 Vein 3.0 0.76 3.1 565.7 2.7 1.3
5600 Level, 6 Vein 3.0 0.67 3.1 582.8 1.9 0.3
At the 5150 level underground, alteration at Vein 6 is described as a silicified zone up to 1.5 m wide replacing the hanging wall of a vein-fault that is 0.1-0.3 m wide. Crushed diorite and gangue are tightly cemented between well-defined walls of the vein fault. (AR 061967).
R. Phendler calculated the probable reserves in 1979 as 70 144 tonnes grading 392.2 g/t Ag and 3.02 g/t Au, plus 69 854 tonnes of similar grade classified as possible ore (Phendler, 1983). These figures should be considered a "historical calculation" and do not meet NI 43-101 standards.
