Exploration History

Staked as Val cl (YA28773) in Jun/78 by Klinkit JV (DuPont of Can EL & Duval Corp), which conducted mapping and sampling in 1978, 1979 and 1982, VLF EM and mag surveys in 1982, trenching in 1983, and drilled 6 holes (248 m) in 1984. The DuPont interest was transferred to CSA Mls Inc in 1984, and to Goldsearch Inc in 1985.

Grant Stewart restaked the property in 1990 as the AT claims (YB33699) and performed roadwork in Sep/92. The claims were later allowed to lapse.

In 2019, the showing was re-staked as the SG 1 to 4 claims by G. Prior and he performed prospecting, stream sediment and soil sampling later that year.

Capsule Geology

Skarn-type Zn-Sn mineralization occurs in a roof pendant of Carboniferous clastic and carbonate rocks (Yukon Tanana Terrane) within the Cretaceous Seagull Batholith, and in greisen zones in the pluton. Two varieties of skarn were mapped, a garnet-actinolite type close to the contact and a diopside-garnet type further away. Both are mineralized with pods of sphalerite, fluorite and traces of galena. Cassiterite and tin-bearing silicates are most abundant in magnetite-rich zones, which tend to occur with actinolite closer to the contact. The best chip sample returned 1.2% Sn in cassiterite across 6 m. A specimen assaying 460 ppm Sn in cassiterite contained 1000 to 1800 ppm total tin.
