Work History

Staked as Rex and Tiger claims (86884) in Apr/63 by L. Laroche.
Between 1971 and 72, the Wolf Lake Joint Venture (Rayrock Mines Ltd, Ashland Oil Canada Ltd and Canadian Industrial Gas and Oil Ltd) carried out a large regional reconnaissance geochemical sampling program over most of topographic map sheet 105 B, including this occurrence. No claims were staked in the vicinity of this occurrence.

Capsule Geology

The area is located south of the Alaska Highway approximately 3 km due south of the community of Rancheria. The occurrence is underlain by medium to coarse grained granite belonging to the Cassiar batholith. The Cassiar batholith is a Early Cretaceous intrusion assigned to the Cassiar Suite.
Government activity reports from the era, indicate that the Wolf Lake Joint Venture was exploring for tungsten and molybdenum mineralization associated with the various granitic intrusions in the region.
Reconnaissance geochemical sampling in 1972 returned only background values. Uranium ¿ lead zircon age dating of the Cassiar batholith by Mortensen et al., (2006) yielded an age of between 110 and 113 million years for two sites located along the Alaska Highway northeast and northwest of the occurrence.
