Work History
Although claim posts dated 1906 were reportedly found near adjacent showings in B.C. the earliest Yukon claim records found are the Molly cl (57354), staked in Aug/47 by A.F. Holliday and R.R. Ranson and optioned to Yukon Ranges EL, which trenched along a length of 44 m in 1948.
Restaked as Goat and Mickey cl (63433) in Aug-Oct/52 by Amalgamated Yukon ML, and as Pagi cl (89587) in Nov/65 by Pacific Giant Steel Ores Ltd. These were transferred to J.S. Kubiak in Nov/67 and to Emperor ML in 1968. Surface surveys, road building and bulldozer trenching were conducted in 1968, followed by the drilling of 247 m in 6 holes in 1969.
Restaked as Sandy cl (Y42948) in Aug/70 by R. Bailey, who trenched in 1971 and transferred the claims in 1972 to Yucol ML, which carried out more bulldozing in 1972 and 1974.
Restaked as Riley cl (YA11739) in Oct/76 by J. Rosenall, who trenched in 1977 and 1978. A large claim block surrounding the showing was staked between Nov/78 and 1980 Toni, etc cl (YA35688) by B. Poulin and associates who formed a private company, Klondike Silver ML, to develop the property. Klondike performed trenching in 1979 and 1980 and shipped 12.8 tonnes to a smelter in 1979 and 13.0 tonnes in 1980. In 1981, Terra Mg & EL performed extensive trenching, mapping and EM surveys and drilled 3 holes (347 m). Klondike continued the trenching and shipped 64.9 tonnes in 1982. Can Occidental Pet L tied on Border cl (YA44635) to the west in Jul/79 and performed mapping and geochem sampling in 1979 and 1980. The property was optioned in 1985 by United Keno Hill ML and explored with VLF surveys and 6 rotary-percussion holes (280 m) later in the year, and geological mapping, soil sampling, airborne magnetic surveys and airborne and ground VLF surveys in 1986. After the option was dropped, Klondike performed bulldozer trenching in 1988.
Capsule Geology
The main showing (Switchback Vein) occurs about 300 m south of the Yukon-BC border. Several minor occurrences are situated nearby, including the Discovery Vein which lies in Yukon about one km northwest, and several more located 0.5 to 2.0 km to the southeast, in B.C., which include the Chinese Trench, Pit and Lake showings. All of the showings consist of narrow and erratic lenses of sphalerite and galena in northeast-trending alteration zones associated with vein faults that cut the Cassiar Batholith. The veins are usually surrounded by narrow alteration zones.
The main showing is a vein about 1.4 m wide that dips 65° northwest and is now exposed on a steep, north-facing talus slide. The average grade of approximately 90 tonnes shipped from this zone is about 435.4 g/t Ag, 15.4% Pb, 21.7% Zn, 0.1% Cu and less than 0.69 g/t Au. The best drill assay in 1985 returned 78.9 g/t Ag and 9.6% Zn across 1.5 m.
