Work History
Staked as Sterling cl (57203) in Jun/47 by Western Ranges Prospecting Syndicate (Conwest EL, Frobisher ECL and Nova-Co. EL) which performed mapping and hand trenching in 1947-48 and was incorporated into Yukon Ranges EL in 1949.
Restaked as JRS cl (60612) in Aug/51; as Bimbo cl (77182) in Oct/61; as Lee cl (88578) in Oct/63 and Silver cl (Y22335) in Dec/67 by P. Bochon; as HG by J.E. Kelpin and the RF cl (Y73578) in Jun/73 by T. Flint. Old workings at that time consisted of a 50 ft long open cut, several hand pits and a few small bulldozer trenches.
Restaked as Olie cl (Y93774) in Oct/75 by J. Melnychuk, who hand trenched in 1976, and as David cl (YA72484) in May/85 to the east and Zulu Lady (YA90485) in Jul/84 by G. Medford and R. Stack, who performed mapping, trenching and sampling in 1986 and transferred the claims to Chase Res Corp in 1987.
Restaked as S cl 1-6 (YB90527) by J. Suffesick in Oct/97.
Capsule Geology
Galena, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite occur with calcite in irregular pockets or veinlets in the matrix of a 6 m wide breccia zone which appears to strike north into the hill and cuts weakly dolomitized Lower Cambrian limestone about 300 to 450 m east of the edge of the Cassiar Batholith. Overall grade is very low although a picked sample of mineralized dump material assayed 819.4 g/t Ag, 8.01% Pb, 11.7% Zn, 0.09% Cu, 3.2% As and 0.17 g/t Au. Some tetrahedrite is probably present.
Early reports stated that a 30 cm wide galena vein 244 m from the contact was traced for a length of 54.9 m and that a grab sample assayed 4114.2 g/t Ag and 52.0% Pb. Another published assay, probably from this vein, is 1083.4 g/t Ag, 11.7% Pb and 1.1% Zn from a 1.8 m channel sample. A channel sample in 1948 reportedly assayed 384.0 g/t Ag, 10.6% Pb, 6.1% Zn across 0.6 m.
A second breccia zone, exposed in a hand trench approximately 230 m downslope, contains less sulphides.
Trenching in 1986 exposed six mineralized areas along a length of 1100 m. The lowest showing is 150 m north of the Alaska Highway. The best assay was 1354.2 g/t Ag and 0.21 g/t Au on a specimen from the Mike showing.
