Capsule Geology

The occurrence is located in the south-central portion of the Selwyn Basin. The occurrence is underlain by silty limestone, calcareous phyllite and quartz-feldspar conglomerate assigned to the Late Cambrian to Middle Ordovician Rabbitkettle Formation. The Rabbitkettle Formation unconformably overlies coarse turbiditic clastic rocks assigned to the Upper Proterozoic to Lower Cambrian Hyland Group.
There is no record of assessment or other exploration work ever being filed for this occurrence. During the mid 1970¿s through to the early 1980¿s several companies explored the area and reported anomalous levels of zinc in the streams surrounding the occurrence. Although a few narrow zones of zinc mineralization were reportedly identified in black shales, no mineralization of any potential size was ever identified.
